Can You Take Disposable Vapes on a Plane?
Share
Vaping is widely accepted in the UK. But the same can't be said for flying with disposable vapes. The laws are constantly changing, and having the latest information is critical in helping you adapt to the considerations. Besides taking the vapes onto the plane, you should also have other considerations, like the legality of vaping in the countries where you will be landing.
Can You Take a Vape on a Plane?
You can bring vaping kits and vaping accessories, disposable vapes included on board commercial aircrafts. However, you will be required to keep them on your person or in your carry-on luggage. Like laptops, e-cigarettes contain lithium batteries which can’t be stored in the hold of the plane due to fire risks.
You can keep the device in the cabin with you but not your checked luggage. The device should also be separate from any pods or vape tanks because it will be counted as a battery and has to be stored safely.
Can You Take E-liquid on a Plane?
You will be allowed to take e-liquids on board, just like you would other liquids. However, there are other regulations that apply. For instance, the carry-on luggage must only contain 100mls of any variety of liquid, including e-liquids. For this reason, if you plan on taking other toiletries on board, you will have little room left on board for any large shortfill e-liquids.
According to UK Laws, the following laws apply if you carry liquids in your hand luggage:
- The container must hold no more than 100ml
- The container must be a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag which holds no more than a litre and measures about 20cm x 20cm.
- The contents must fit comfortably inside a bag so it can be sealed
- The bag must not be knotted or tied at the top
- You’re limited to only one plastic bag per person
- You must show the bag at the airport security point
Do I need to Empty My Tank Before Flying?
Before going through security, you should ensure that the components attached to the battery are separated. You don't have to empty the tank, although it will have to be included in your declared liquids.
While it's not required to empty the tank, it's advisable to empty it as the pressure on the plane could cause it to leak.
How Do You Take a Disposable Vape on a Plane?
Disposable vapes present a unique challenge. They are built as one unit, so you can't separate the components. They are subject to the same restrictions as other vape kits however, there are many benefits of flying with disposable vapes. First, they are light and compact, so they don't take up much space. Because they are a sealed unit, you don't need a separate tank or battery, so you can just place the device in your sealed liquids bag.
Can You Vape on a Plane?
You've figured out that you can take your disposable vape on the plane. The next question is, can you vape on the plane if your nicotine cravings kick during your flight? Unfortunately, vaping is not permitted on any commercial airline. Many airlines have specific instructions in their pre-flight notices that highlight vaping restrictions. Even when using lower-powered vape devices like pod kits for discreet vaping isn't allowed.
One airline, Ryanair, has a unique exception. It allows the use of the smokeless cigarettes they sell on board. However, many people agree that these are not nearly as good as your current setup, although they will provide you with the nicotine to quiet down your cravings mid-flight.
What Happens If you Vape on a Plane?
You might be tempted to vape discreetly onboard an aircraft, but you shouldn’t try it. Some airlines have been known to arrest and imprison travellers for vaping on their flights. In most cases, you may receive a warning to stop vaping first. We recommend you take heed. A quick nicotine fix isn’t worth the fines or jail time you might get.
Can You Vape in an Airport?
Airports have tightened their security over recent years. They've also loosened their regulations, and some allow vapers to vape at the same designated smoking areas if the airport or terminal you're travelling from provides one. These designated areas are mostly signposted and usually within an outdoor setting, although indoor areas are becoming more popular with airports in recent times.
Taking Your Disposable Vapes to Other Countries
It's essential to keep in mind that not all countries understand vaping and have supportive legislation like the UK. Before flying out with disposable vapes to another country, it's essential to determine if vapes are legal in that country. Countries like Singapore, Cuba, Egypt, Qatar and Mexico have a total ban on all vaping, including zero nicotine. In contrast, others like Japan, Australia and Norway have banned vaping except for zero nicotine.
How About Bringing Disposable Vapes Back to the UK?
Bringing back a disposable vape into the UK shouldn't be much trouble. But there are conditions and regulations that the vape must meet to be allowed into the UK. You should check the nicotine strength of the disposable vape. If it is stronger than what you can purchase in the UK, then they are in violation of the TPD regulations and won't be allowed passed the airport.
It's easier to buy enough to get you through your travels, so you can save yourself the hassle of worrying about bringing anything back to the UK.
