Packaging and Presentation 

Vapers are sold on the appearance of a mod before they can try it. That’s why the trick to making a great mod is ensuring it looks great.

The Smok Nord 2 comes in a rectangular cardboard box with a photo of the device on the front with some pictograms. There is a list of content and the usual age restrictions and nicotine warnings on the back.

Inside the packaging, you will find the Nord 2 Pod system and the two refillable pods that come with the kit. Each of the pods has a pre-installed coil-head. There's also a micro USB charging cable and user manual.

There's the inclusion of a spare pod and two coil heads which are quite impressive considering this Nord 2 is designed for starters.

Design and Build Quality

The Smok Nord 2 spots have the same look as the original Nord. The button style, mouthpiece, and general design are strikingly similar. But there are also a few differences that set the new device apart when you can compare the two.

The Nord two has almost the same dimensions as its predecessor and is primarily made of zinc alloy and plastic. Smok has also borrowed some inspiration from its other devices like the Trinity Alpha and the RPM80 Pro Pod Mod with the decorative panels that give the pod an other-worldly appearance.

The Nord 2 is a manually activated device with a plastic fire button that doubles as the power output adjustment button. The button also has a built-in LED to alert you when the device is on.

At the bottom of the device is the micro-USB charging port with "IQ-N Chip" branding, the chip Smok has selected for this device, and the air slots are on the side.

One of the most notable upgrades on the Nord 2 is the cool LCD. It sits on one of the thinner sides of the device and comes with a screen protector. Once you have the device, you notice the screen looks a lot bigger than its dimensions. It works perfectly, and for the size of the device, it is more than enough.

The pods

The Smok Nord 2 comes with two high-quality PETG tanks that allow you to check the e-liquid level. The coils in the pods are replaceable, and they have side holes for refilling.  One of the impressive aspects about the coils is that they can support a vast range of coils, making them perfect for adventurous vapers who like tweaking their vaping experience.

The first coil that comes with the kit is the RPM Mesh 0.4ohm DTL coil which works best around 25 watts. The second is the Nord DC 0.8ohm MTL coil that is good up to 16 watts.

Just like the devices, the pods are easy to use and work with. Before your first vape session, start by removing the coil from the pod and adding a few drops straight to the coil to prime it first. Then replace the coil and fill up the tank with the rest of your preferred vape liquid. Allow the pod to sit for about 5-10 minutes before vaping for the juice to seep in, so you don't get any dry hits or burn out the coils.

Menu and Features

The Nord 2 has superior power output over the original Nord device. With the single-button operation, the device is relatively straightforward to use. Press the fire button five times in quick succession. You can also adjust the power by pressing the fire button three times until the wattage on display starts blinking. Adjust the power by long-pressing the fire button or short pressing it until you reach your desired setting. The power output ranges from 1-40W, which is quite impressive for a small device.

The menu isn't complicated or sophisticated. The settings are only limited to the power output, but the screen displays other vital details like the resistance of the coil head, real-time voltage, puff counter, and wattage. For a starter pod, this is quite impressive.

Battery life

The original Nord had a built-in 1,100mAh battery. At the time, it was a leader in its class. But so much has changed since then and the Nord 2 looked to adapt by having an even bigger 1,500mAh battery. Although the device has the same size and stature as the older model, it holds a larger battery in the same space. You now have an extra 400mAh to boost your vaping experience.

The Nord 2 battery is quite impressive. It can last anywhere between a couple of hours to over a day, depending on the power output setting and how often you plan on running it.

Once the battery is drained, you can use the fast charging 1.2A charging port to get the battery back to full charge in just over an hour. If you can't wait, there’s the bypass technology that will allow you to vape as the device is charging.

Performance

The new Nord 2 device really shines over its predecessor, which could only manage 15W output. The Nord 2 makes use of both Nord and RPM coils. The latter can be used at much higher settings than the Nord coils, hence the need for additional power.

The device's performance is almost free of fault, especially considering the Nord 2 isn't designed with the best performance in mind but delivers way over its class. The screen is easy to use, and adjusting the wattage only takes three clicks of a button.

The coils are magical and press-to-fit, so you don't need any tools to remove and insert the coils. The vapour and flavour production is commendable, but as you would expect, the RPM coils deliver a better experience.
