How to Use a Vape Pen?

Vaping has come a long way. There are box mods and vape kits that have now flooded the market. However, every vaper will attest that at some point, they went through a vape pen. Vape pens are like the gold standard of vaping. They are most often used for vaping concentrates, wax, e-liquid and even CBD.

Vape pens are designed to be simple and straightforward to use. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take time to learn how to use the device properly. This is what this guide is about; helping you learn how to make the most out of your vape pen.

What is a Vape Pen?

A Vape pen uses a power source (battery) to heat a vape tank or cartridge that produces vapour. The e-cig look-alike has batteries that store the power. They have a cylindrical shape and are small enough to fit snuggly in your palm.

Even though the use of vape pens has only recently gone viral, the devices have been there for a few decades. How the device works has not changed much, but the battery size among other features have been greatly improved.

Parts of a Vape Pen

To have a firm grip of the workings of a vape pen, it's best to start by understanding the different parts of the device, their roles and how each of the parts works.

It's important to note that there are different types of vape pens, depending on the substance being vaped. However, they all have similar basic components. These include;

E-Cig Atomizers or heating element

This part creates heat which transforms the product being vaped into vapour. Depending on the type of vape pen, the heating element can be a convection or conduction style.

In conduction atomisers, the heat is transferred from the element to the product through direct contract. Convention heating elements transfer the heat through hot air in the chamber as opposed to direct contact.

In advanced vape pens, the temperature of the heating element can be adjusted to maximising vaporisation of the product and enhance the experience.

Tank

The vape tank holds the product you’re vaping. The tank can be a clearomizer or cartomizer. There are also other types of tanks in circulation, but these two are the most popular.

Clearomizers have the tank, and the atomiser has separate pieces, and as the name suggests, clearomizers are clear which allows you to see how much of the vape product is left.

Cartomizers are opaque, which doesn't allow you to see how much of the product is remaining. The tank and atomiser in this kind of set up are not separate.

Battery

This is the source of power for the vape pen. It produces an electric current that is used to heat the element and vaporise the product. The strength of the e cig battery determines how often and how long the vape pen can be used before you need to recharge it.

Sensor

The sensor is tasked with triggering the battery to create an electric current to heat the element. When you press the firing button, the sensor is activated, which in turn sends signals to the battery to send an electric current.

In some models, you have to press the firing button more than once for the device to fire. This is often to prevent accidental firing of the device.

Mouthpiece

Every vape pen has to have a mouthpiece. This is the part that you stick into your mouth and draw from.

How do Vape Pens Work?

Vape pens work using a simple principle. Once you fire the device, you suck on the mouthpiece. This causes the battery to send a charge to the sensor that causes a spike in temperature in the atomiser. As a result, the increased heat vaporises the product in the tank and turns it into vapour. The vapour then passes through the device and the mouthpiece to your mouth where you release it by exhaling.

How to Use a Vape Pen

The most important part about using a vape pen is being conversant with the different parts. The rest is a walk in the park.

While the basic working principle of vape pens is the same, the functioning and operation might change slightly depending on the type and brand of the vape pen.

The first step of using a vape pen is making sure the battery is properly charged. If you’re using the device for the first time, you will need to charge the battery before you can use it. The battery comes with a USB connector that you can use.

Depending on the battery, it’s quality and longevity, a full charge could take anywhere between an hour or two. Once it’s fully charged, the colour or frequency of the indicator light will change to notify you.

For disposable varieties, remove the rubber top and screw it onto the vape pen. And you’re ready to draw your first vape.

For button less models, the device automatically turns on when you take the first inhale through the mouthpiece.

For ordinary vape pens with buttons, you will need to press the firing button several times before the device turns on and starts functioning.

Once the device is on, you are all set to start vaping. As mentioned earlier, vape pens are easy and straightforward to use. If you face any challenges, you can always refer to the user manual.

Tips for First-Time Users

  • Each inhale through the mouthpiece should last about five seconds.
  • Between the inhales, make sure you have a breath of fresh air. This is particularly important if you’re vaping CBD.
  • Make sure you monitor how you feel after the first few puffs. Look out of feelings of dizziness, nausea and lightheaded. Wait a few minutes until the episodes before trying to vape again.
  • You don’t need to hold your breath after each inhales.

Conclusion

After reading this guide, you should be able to run your vape pen like a pro. Keep in mind that the vape pen might look slightly different depending on the type you buy. However, the operation and procedures remain the same for most of them.
