Most vapers replace their coil every one to two weeks, although coil life depends on how often you vape, the wattage you use and the type of e-liquid. A burnt taste, weaker flavour or reduced vapour are all signs it's time for a new coil.

The recommended e-liquid depends on the coil resistance. Lower-resistance X Series coils are generally designed for high VG e-liquids and sub-ohm vaping, while higher-resistance coils are better suited to 50/50 e-liquids if supported by the device.

Before using a new coil, add a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton, fit the coil into the tank, fill the tank and leave it for around five to ten minutes. This allows the cotton to absorb the e-liquid and helps prevent dry hits.

A burnt taste usually means the coil hasn't been primed properly, has reached the end of its lifespan or is being used above its recommended wattage. Using the correct e-liquid for the coil can also help improve performance.

Rinsing a coil may remove some residue, but it won't fully restore flavour or performance. Once the coil begins to taste burnt or produce less vapour, replacing it is the most effective solution.
